5 Ways To Get Through Reporting Rape & Sexual Abuse

“Speak the truth, even if your voice shakes.”

Maggie Kuhn

With Shake My Hand’s ultimate goal or mission being to encourage Survivors of rape and sexual abuse to report their experiences and tell their story as well as the recent launch of our first hashtag movement; #tellthemsooner, we’ve conducted some research (which included polls on our Instagram and Twitter) and through additional talks with Survivors (including our Founder, Aimee Wilson), we’ve developed these five tips to hopefully help you get through the process of reporting your traumatic experiences…

1.     Have Healthy & Realistic Expectations

2.     Utilise Self-Soothing & Distraction Techniques Afterwards

3.     Seek Help & Support From Others

Don’t forget we have a ‘Help Directory’ page at the top of the website which is full of useful contact information for amazingly helpful and supportive charities and groups who are specifically trained to support Survivors of rape and/or sexual abuse as well as fundamental mental health helplines. Either scroll up or click here: Help Directory | Shake My Hand (shakemyhanduk.blogspot.com)

4.     Find Relief & Outlets in Creative Activities

5.     Remind Yourself of Your Motivations & Reasons
